Ramadoss: let States fix quota

Special Correspondent

"Lessons on Periyar should be included in school curriculum"

CHENNAI: States should be allowed to determine, on their own, the quantum of reservation in education and employment, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss said on Monday.

Such a move would make the matter outside the ambit of courts, Dr. Ramadoss said, adding that he had already discussed the issue with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi.

Addressing a seminar to mark the birth anniversary of the Dravida Kazhagam founder E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar), the PMK leader said EVR had reflected on every issue, social or cultural.

To make the youth aware of the significance of his teachings, lessons on the late leader should be included as part of the school curriculum from sixth standard to 12th standard.

Pat from Anbazhagan

K. Anbazhagan, DMK general secretary, said though Vallalar and Subramania Bharati had written or spoken against evil aspects of the caste system, it was Periyar who took on the system successfully by launching a movement.

His influence on every Tamil was intense as he worked for social justice, eradication of untouchability and widow remarriage.

The DMK leader commended Dr. Ramadoss for popularising the teachings of the late leader.
