DHL's new facility

Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI: DHL, a leading express and logistics company, has established a new facility in Chennai with a view to doubling its shipment handling capacity at this centre. The centre, located in the Guindy Industrial Estate, would handle over 3,000 shipments a day.

Addressing presspersons after inaugurating the facility, Chris Callen, Country Manager, DHL Express India, said the company was growing at a rate of 20-25 per cent annually. After New Delhi and Mumbai, Chennai was the third largest market for DHL in India, he said.

The facility would bring together the operations of the two existing service centres in Chennai. Mr. Chris Callen said Tamil Nadu contributed 13 per cent of the company's business in India and Chennai accounted for 70 per cent of the business in Tamil Nadu. DHL has invested Rs. 1,150 crore in India since 2002. With a national network of 1,100 ground staff and a fleet of 250 vehicles operating from 12 service centres in the country, the company has over 35,000 customers.
