PALAKKAD: Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed has said the Government will blacklist private Haj operators who violate government norms. Speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club here on Tuesday, he said the Government had received complaints from pilgrims against some of the 250 private operators. The Government has sought explanation from them. If their replies are not satisfactory they will be blacklisted and will not be allowed to operate, the Minister said. In the coming season, 1.47 lakh pilgrims will be sent. Out of this, one lakh will be sent through the Haj Committee and the remaining through private operators. On the allegation that the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) has entered into electoral adjustments with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the local bodies elections, Mr. Ahamed said the UDF had no such electoral understanding anywhere in the State. In fact, it is the Left Democratic Front led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) which has entered into electoral understanding with the BJP in Malappuram to defeat the Indian Union Muslim League and the UDF, he said.
