Notice to DUTA

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notices to Delhi University, the newly elected president of the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA), Amar Deo Sharma of the Left-backed Democratic Teachers' Front, and the Election Officer of the recent DUTA elections, Prof. S.N. Singh, on a petition by S.D. Siddiqui of the Congress-backed Academics for Action and Development who lost the contest for the presidential post to Mr. Sharma by 12 votes.

Issuing notices for September 23, Justice Vikramjit Sen asked DUTA to submit to the Court all the ballot papers cast in the elections by the next date.

Abducted boy rescued

NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old man was arrested by the Malviya Nagar police of South Delhi on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping his employer's five-year-old son for a ransom of Rs. 60,000.

On Monday, the Police Control Room (PCR) received a call by Kedarnath, a resident of Lado Sarai, alleging that his son, Tushaar, had gone missing. Subsequently, a police team initiated a probe into the matter. Around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the kidnapper called up at a public booth opposite Kedarnath's house and left a message for him saying he would call up again after a while. The kidnapper called up again and demanded Rs. 60,000 as ransom. The police traced the call to a telephone booth at Vikaspuri. The police raided the place and arrested one Ashok, at whose instance the boy was rescued.

Alleged suicide

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his house at Dabri in South-West Delhi on Tuesday.

According to the police, Sunil Kumar, a resident of Vijay Enclave in Dabri, was found hanging by his son around 3-30 p.m. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

The police said Sunil, a carpenter, was alone in the house when he hanged himself. While his son had gone to school, his wife was away at the beauty parlour where she worked.

Bootleggers nabbed

NEW DELHI: Two alleged bootleggers were arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police at Malviya Nagar here on Monday. The police claim to have seized 1,500 quarters of illicit country-made liquor.

The accused, Bhura and Raju Tyagi, were arrested while they were transporting the consignment from Haryana in their Santro car.

NEW DELHI: Two alleged criminals have been arrested at Nandnagri in North-East Delhi.

Acting on a tip-off that Badshah would come to Nandnagri, the police laid a trap and arrested them. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to their involvement in burglary cases. At his instance, the police arrested his accomplice, Aminuddin.
