HYDERABAD: Two Padma Bhushans brought together several generations of doctors and members of the medical fraternity at the Osmania Medical College here on Tuesday. While one of the recipients of the prestigious national recognition was R.D. Lele, the first student of OMC to win the award in 1992, the second was K. Srinath Reddy, the latest student of OMC to follow suit by bagging the award this year. Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde felicitated them at a function organised by the OMC Old Students Association Trust on the college premises. Prof. Lele, considered the father of nuclear medicine, is the former director of Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai, while Prof. Srinath Reddy, a consultant for WHO and the World Bank, is the head of the cardiology department at AIIMS, New Delhi. The function, attended by several former students of the college, current fraternity, former teachers, Superintendents, Principals and well-wishers of OMC, also saw Prof. Reddy's mother Dr. Sarojini Reddy being honoured along with V.N. Waghray, a renowned faculty of the college. Trust chairman A. Gopalakrishnan said the trust had so far contributed Rs.1.5 crores to the development of Osmania General Hospital and Medical College. Health Secretary I.V. Subba Rao was present.
