NEW DELHI: A five-day conference-cum-festival, "Jadu Utsav 2005", being organised by the Indian Brotherhood of Magicians opens here in the Capital this Thursday. Aimed at promoting national integration, besides encouraging international brotherhood, the conference will see participation of about 300 magicians from across the country and also from Mauritius, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia. "For the past few months we have been trying to bring together magicians from various parts of the country for our conference. Magicians from Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Punjab and Rajasthan have confirmed their participation. Even magicians from abroad have evinced interest in the conference," said the secretary of the Indian Brotherhood of Magicians, Sumit Kharbanda, on Wednesday. The convention -- in which magicians will create awareness about social issues like family planning, HIV/AIDS, and harmful consequences of cigarette smoking through their various tricks -- will take off on Thursday with a blindfold motorcycle ride by Rahool Kharbanda from Delhi and H.G. Ley from Hyderabad from the State Bank of India on Parliament Street to the Inner Circle of Connaught Place. Magician P.C. Sorkar (junior) will inaugurate the conference at the Hindu Maha Sabha on Friday. The "All-India Senior Magicians" and "Lady Magicians" competitions will be held at Gandhi Memorial Hall on Saturday.
