MANGALORE: The strike by the former employees of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) in front of the district office on Wednesday entered the 100th day. To mark the occasion, the workers staged a mock mass suicide scene at the venue of the strike. Eight workers covered their faces with black masks and allowed their colleagues to fix the noose around their necks in a bid to draw the attention of the district officials and that of the management of the company. The workers had also participated in a mass "Bhikshatane" (begging), shoe polishing and several other methods of protest. According to the convenor of the MCF General Workers Union, B.S. Chandru, the workers were in distress as they were not able to support their families. He said he would not be surprised if they took any radical decisions in the coming days if the management of the company did not re-employ them.
