VISAKHAPATNAM: District Collector Praveen Prakash has advised the Coordinator of District Hospitals Naik to conduct health camps in slum areas. Speaking during visits to some slum areas in Anakapalle Municipality on Wednesday, the Collector called for taking care to ensure that not a single incident of diarrhoea occurred. The drain water would stagnate in the low-lying areas in the aftermath of the rains resulting in health hazards which could be overcome by taking adequate precautionary measures, he felt. The patients should be provided medical services within 24 hours, he said, and suggested that the first health camp should be organised in Anjaiah Colony of Anakapalle. Mr. Prakash said that a house could be termed partly damaged if the utensils came out floating due to water gushing in. Such families would be provided 20 kg. of rice. He also inspected the banks of Sarada River.
Tough talk
He gave an ultimatum to municipal officials to ensure the sanitation was improved in ten days and ensure that each household consumed drinking water only after it was boiled and cooled. The Collector also examined the election arrangements and inspected electronic voting machines. He directed the Sub-Inspector of Police to prepare a plan for bandobast arrangements for elections, and also install a wireless station at the Municipal Commissioner's office.
