NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old Bangladesh national and an alleged accomplice of his have been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police on charges of committing burglary. Gold jewellery weighing half a kilogram, Rs. 46,000 and a laptop were allegedly recovered from their possession. Three persons had been arrested earlier in this connection. According to the police, one Mehra Sons Jewellers shop at Greater Kailash-II was burgled on July 14. The burglars took away cash and jewellery kept in the shop. The case was handed over to a team led by Inspector Rajender Singh. On July 24, the police arrested a burglar named Aslam and recovered some jewellery and cash from his possession. At his instance, the police arrested two more persons, Anwar Hussain and Sattar, and recovered half kilogram gold, 30 gm of smack and a pistol from their person. These arrests revealed that a large gang of Bangladeshi nationals were committing theft and burglary in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and in Uttar Pradesh. They learnt that Mintoo, the gang leader, had fled to Bangladesh after disposing of half the stolen property. The Special Staff team went to West Bengal and arrested Ajit Viswas for harbouring Mintoo. Further probe led to the arrest of Mohammad Yasin from Ajmer on September 12. At his instance, the police arrested his accomplice, Faimmuddin, an alleged receiver of stolen jewellery. They also recovered 20 kg smack from his possession. Faimmuddin allegedly revealed that he was a close accomplice of Mintoo and would remain in contact with him even when he would be in Bangladesh. Through him, Mintoo and other Bangladeshi nationals into burglary dispose of stolen jewellery items. Further probe into the matter is on and more arrests in the case are likely.
