dated September 23, 1955: Nehru in Orissa

Prime Minister Nehru flew into Bhubaneswar on September 22 for a personal study of the flood situation in the State. An IAF plane carrying the Prime Minister touched down at 11.50 a.m. in inclement weather in the wake of a sixty-mile per hour cyclone that whittled through Bhubaneswar and its suburbs on September 21. Strong gales had earlier twisted telephone poles and cut off telephonic link between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. On arrival, Mr. Nehru was received by the Orissa Governor, Mr. P.S. Kumaraswami Raja, and the Chief Minister, Mr. Nabakrushna Choudhuri.
