That the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is still the major player in telecom sector seemed to have dawned on everyone in the field. Except perhaps the BSNL employees. The BSNL customers who jump on to avail themselves of `early-bird' offers almost always end up regretting their decision. The latest to join the group is customers of broadband connectivity offered by the BSNL. Even when many private players lag behind in organising the infrastructure required for opening up, the BSNL could easily take up the challenge and make fast, first strides. Follow-up service, however, leaves much to be desired. For a beginning, if one calls up the customer care during instances of disruptions in Internet connectivity, all that personnel at the other end could do is check the configuration of modem and system. If all entries are correct, the machine should be connected to the cyber world, theoretically. If not, it is up to the customer's wits to find out the reason. For, there are not enough field staff for home visits and check complaints. It will be addressed soon, the reply to queries remain the same. Not all early birds get the best chunk after all!
