Letters to the Editor
The editorial, "For a two-track response to naxalism" (Sept. 21) has rightly cautioned the States that are not affected by naxalism too to take serious steps to meet the basic needs of the people. The founding leaders of the naxalbari movement had a brilliant vision of bridging socio-economic disparities through people's movements and revolutions. But, unfortunately, the movement has been hijacked by those who give more importance to arms and ammunition, think nothing of bloodshed, and know little about the socialist ideology. It is time the so-called Maoists dropped the gun and became part of mainstream society.
J.P. Reddy,
Both curative and preventive measures are adopted simultaneously for the effective treatment of any disease. Similarly naxalism can be rooted out only if there is a two-track response to it as suggested in the editorial.
Amit Kumar Srivastava,
