Vijayawada
Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has asked the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to spell out its stand on economic reforms before looking for an alliance with Left parties. The TDP may claim to have changed its policies, but political parties at the Centre and in the State need to rework the equations among themselves immediately, said Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, MP and Central Committee Member of the CPI. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Reddy clarified that though the CPI could not reach an understanding with the Congress in some places, it would not take the support of the TDP under any circumstances. The Congress-Left combine would crush the TDP in the elections in Vijayawada.
`Clever ploy'
Mr. Reddy described the claims of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) that naxalites had joined the ranks of the Telangana Jagrana Sena (TJS) as a "clever ploy intended at terrifying other political parties." The naxalites would not choose the TJS as a route to join the mainstream if they wanted to. The TRS tried to gain sympathy from some sections in Telangana. The formation of TJS was part of a drama ahead of the civic elections. The CPI leader asserted that the TRS adopted an anti-communist stance from the beginning. The TRS fielded candidates against the Left in the last Assembly elections, which helped the TDP. "I call upon the people not to vote for the TRS. A vote for the TRS is a vote for the TDP," he said. Deploring the language being used by Union Minister A. Narendra, he said that despite holding a responsible position at the Centre, the TRS leader uttered objectionable words recently. People should reject these forces by defeating them. "Mr. Narendra successfully hijacked the TRS to serve his own political ends.
