Justice B.K. Roy shifted to Sikkim

NEW DELHI: The President has transferred Justice Binod Kumar Roy, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. He has been asked to assume charge on or before September 30.

Justice Roy was appointed a permanent Judge of the Patna High Court on October 31, 1988. He was transferred to the Allahabad High Court on April 28, 1994. On October 14, 2002, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It was during his tenure that 25 judges of the Punjab and Harynana High Court went on mass causal leave in April last year. Thereafter he was transferred as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on February 4, 2005. From there he is being shifted to Sikkim.

Justice Dinendra Biswas, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, will be its acting Chief Justice.
