SRIHARIKOTA: Space scientist Satish Dhawan, whose bust was unveiled by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the space centre in Sriharikota on Wednesday, had once said: "whenever my work related to the country's space programme became a little taxing, I went to see the birds of SHAR and came back feeling happy and invigorated."The scientists of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) acclaimed his love for nature and his admiration for the aerodynamics of bird flight, particularly during his tenure as Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). "The special affinity he had for ecology and environment and love and affection for Yanadis of Sriharikota speak volumes of his immeasurable love for nature, biodiversity and towards human welfare as a whole," they said. Dr. Singh recalled the scientist's concern for environment and ecology and his all-encompassing interest in all living beings. The bust has been installed at a cost of Rs. 3 lakhs, according to SHAR sources. It took six months for Thiruvananthapuram-based sculptor Kunhiraman to chisel the beautiful piece.
