MYSORE: For those adventure seeking individuals looking for variety, this year's Dasara has a wide spread of activities to offer. From aero sport to aqua sport, the `Dasara Sahasotsava' will witness some of the adrenalin flowing activities in Mysore over a period of eight days starting October 4.

At a time when adventure buffs travel far and wide seeking a variety of activities, the authorities have succeeded in bringing some of the best known adventure sports in world, be it bungee jumping or Zorbing, to Mysore. Being promoted under four broad categories of terrestrial, aero sports, aqua sports and competitions, the tourists as well as Mysoreans will get a taste of adventure sports.

Fashion walk

An added attraction would be the Vertical Fashion Walk being organised as part of the inaugural function at Doddakere Maidan where the models and film stars would be walking on the specially created vertical ramp.

Dasara Adventure Sports Committee Chairman and Superintendent of Police Vipul Kumar said that venues including Doddakere Maidan, Lalitha Mahal Palace Grounds, Mandakalli airstrip, Chamundi Hills and the backwaters of Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir would be hosting a variety of adventure sports.

Terrestrial events such as the bungee jumping and Zorbing would be held at Doddakere Maidan, while the two-wheeler dirt track racing would be organised at Lalitha Mahal Grounds. Among the aero sports, para-sailing, microlite and power hand gliding would be conducted at Mandakalli airstrip, and para motor event would be held at Lalitha Mahal Palace Grounds.

Mr. Vipul Kumar said that aqua sports would be organised in the backwaters of Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir, near here. The river water rafting would be between the KRS reservoir and Balamuri in the downstream.

Further, he said, kayaking, canoeing and wind surfing would be demonstrated by experts of General Thimmaiah National Adventure Academy. Safety measures had been taken and credentials of those conducting the activities checked.

Wrestling

Mr. Vipul Kumar said that the Dasara wrestling championship would be inaugurated on October 4, and more than 400 wrestlers from across the State would take part in the six-day event. He said that the championship would be held at D. Devaraja Urs Multi-purpose Stadium, where the `Nada Kusti' or traditional wrestling would also be held.

For the first time, he said, a wrestling bout of differently abled persons had been organised along with a bout between women wrestlers.

As part of the inaugural function, Mr. Vipul Kumar said that the sports flame would be brought from Chamundi Hills and a number of veteran wrestlers would take part in the run.

Wrestlers would also take out a procession around the Mysore Palace, he added.
