NEW DELHI: A large number of Bharatiya Janata Party workers led by party spokesperson Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Delhi Pradesh BJP president Harsh Vardhan took out a protest march from Master Chandgi Ram Akhara to the Delhi Assembly on Thursday demanding resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for her alleged involvement in "the Rs.12,500-crore power privatisation scam". Addressing the protestors at a police barricade near the Assembly, Mr. Malhotra, who is also the Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, said this was the first time that the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee is from the ruling party and still the leaders are not agreeing with his report. He charged that "the report prepared by S.C. Vats had been rejected to cover up the corruption by Ms Dikshit and that Congress president Sonia Gandhi was also involved in the matter". Dr. Vardhan said the fast running meters are a major cause of nuisance. Former Union Minister Vijay Goel lauded the role of Dr. Vats in exposing the power scam through his report. The protestors, included several BJP legislators, who wore the "fast-running meters" round their necks.
