First batch of medical students to Volvograd all set to leave

NEW DELHI: The first batch of 14 Indian students from Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata who will leave for Moscow for higher education in medicine in the Russian State Medical University and the Volvograd State Medical University were given a warm send-off at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Wednesday.

During the interaction it was clarified that the medical degrees obtained from Russian universities were recognised in India and by UN institutions.

English also has been recognised as a media of instruction in Russian universities.

Sheila promises more power before Commonwealth Games

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government is committed to adding 1,350 MW to its power generating capacity before the Commonwealth Games-2010, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced while delivering an acceptance speech at the 3rd Wartsila-Mantosh Sondhi Award Ceremony in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Ms. Dikshit is the third recipient of this prestigious award that has been conferred on her "in recognition of her significant contribution to the power sector". Ole Johansson, CEO of Wartsila Corporation, presented the award.

Shekhawat presented copy of book on performing arts

NEW DELHI: The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, received the first copy of the book, "The Performing Arts of India- Development and Spread Across the Globe", at his residence here on Thursday.

Mr. Shekhawat stressed the need to give artistes the status and material support to enable them to practise and perfect their arts and pass it on to the new generation.

He complimented noted classical dancer Sharon Lowen, who has edited the book, for popularising traditional performing arts not only in the country but also across the globe.

Additional coaches for several trains

NEW DELHI: Northern Railway has decided to augment at least a dozen trains.

Mahakoshal Express will have one more 3AC coach, while the Delhi-Udhampur Uttar Sampark Kranti Express will have an additional 2AC coach besides three Second Class sleepers and a general compartment.

The Maharashtra Sampark Kranti Express and Okha-Varanasi Express will be augmented by an additional 3AC coach, while Jharkhand Express will have an additional Second Class sleeper coach and Allahabad-Dehradun Link Express an additional Second Class sleeper coach. The Allahabad-Haridwar Express will have an additional sleeper class coach and one 3AC coach, and Muri Express an extra sleeper coach.
