A film on Siddha shot in just two days
It was a tough task for young director Jawaharlal Shanmugam (Joe Shan) when he got a call from his friend asking whether he could do a short film for the National Institute of Siddha (NIS) in time for the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to view the documentary during his visit to Chennai to open the NIS inauguration earlier this month. But Shanmugam was up to the challenge. A senior officer wanted the script in a day. "The next day I went to his office with a detailed script. The official read it, made some minor changes and approved the draft. The final product of the film was in our hands in two days." However, because of his tight schedule, Dr. Singh could not view the documentary, and asked for a DVD copy.
"He asked his secretary to make 200 copies of the DVD and send it to different departments," says `Joe Shan'. Making the film in just two days was an enjoyable experience, he adds. The 9-minute film is produced by the National Film Development Corporation.
