Chain snatched from woman

Burglars strike at two houses in Thoraipakkam

TAMBARAM: A gold chain weighing about five sovereigns was snatched from a woman in Santhoshapuram, falling under the jurisdiction of the Selaiyur police station limits on Thursday.

According to the police, Rajalakshmi was alone at home, with her husband, Anadharaj,out at work. Two men entered the house, asking for a glass of water. As the unsuspecting woman entered the kitchen to fetch the water, the men followed her into the house, overpowered her and snatched her gold `thaali' and escaped on a motorcycle.

Elsewhere, burglars struck at two houses in Thoraipakkam. They first targeted the house of a retired principal at Sakthi Nagar and took away diamond earrings, Rs. 10,000 in cash and a camera. The woman had locked her house and gone to her daughter's house at Neelankarai a couple of days ago. When she returned on Thursday, she found the door broken open and the valuables missing. At Karapakkam burglars broke into a house and took away gold jewels weighing about 10 sovereigns.
