Four Maoists killed in two encounters

Congress sympathiser shot dead by Maoists in Mahabubnagar district

ANANTAPUR: Three key Maoists were killed in an alleged encounter with the police on the hillocks, near Chinarayanipalle in Bukkapatnam mandal of the district, 75 km from here, in the wee hours of Thursday. Seven other Maoists succeeded in escaping the encounter.

According to Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain, Greyhounds and special police teams were conducting combing operations in the area on specific information that Maoists were meeting in the Bukkapatnam forest area to evolve strategies on spreading the activities in Anantapur district and in neighbouring Karnataka.

On of the police teams came across a group of 10 persons on the hillocks around 2.30 a.m. When the police asked the group to identify themselves they opened fire on the police and the police retaliated. The exchange of fire went on for 15 minutes.

The police found three bodies of Maoists during search of the area in the morning.

The Maoists were identified as Mala Nagaraju alias RK (25), deputy commander of Bahuda dalam operating in Kadapa district, Adi alias Shyam (22), deputy commander of Penna Ahobilam area dalam, and Bestha Raghavendra alias Ravi (20), a member of the Maddileru platoon.

According to a report from Guntur, a Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire with a police special party at Vellaturu village, 10 km from Vinukonda town in Guntur district. Four others escaped unhurt.

Congressman killed

Special Correspondent in Hyderabad writes: Meanwhile, a Congress sympathiser, Maripalli Lingaswamy(50), was shot dead by Maoists at Appaipalli village of Lingala mandal in Mahabubnagar district.
