THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The two-day National Aerospace Manufacturing Seminar (NAMS), which concluded here on Friday, highlighted India's potential to achieve self-reliance in the aerospace industry and play a greater role in the global market. Chairman of the seminar S. Janardhana stressed the need to create infrastructural facilities within the country for future requirements. He called for the preparation of a road map for the next 10 years with thrust on cost reduction, employment potential and industrial and economic growth. Mr. Janardhana also called attention to the need for heightened patent awareness to protect intellectual property rights of Indian scientists in the aerospace industry. The ISRO scientist Vedhachalam underlined the need to reduce the turn-around time between design and final product in the aerospace industry. He urged academic institutions in the country to come forward to take up research activities. The seminar provided a common platform for interaction between technologists, engineers, academics and industries in the aerospace sector. The technical sessions covered product design, material processing, E- manufacturing, surface engineering, robotics, inspection methodology and operational management.
