NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday fixed September 27 as the deadline for Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor and her estranged husband Sanjay Kapur to finalise an agreed formula to settle their marital dispute. Justice Mukul Mudgal asked counsel to finalise the dispute resolution talks and inform the court by Tuesday so that it could bring the matter to an end. It is likely that the dispute will be resolved by then as counsel told the court that the two had made further progress in the talks but required more time to tie up the loose ends. However, they expressed inability to share the progress in the talks with Mr. Justice Mudgal in open court, saying it could be done in his chamber to safeguard the negotiations. Mr. Justice Mudgal allowed the plea and asked the staff to make arrangements for the hearing. Later, the Judge went into the chamber followed by counsel a few minutes later where the latter apprised him of the points of agreement and disagreement between the couple. The hearing went on for about 30 minutes. Thereafter, Mr. Justice came back to the courtroom and said the parties were being given time till next Tuesday to conclude their talks. Karisma and Sanjay agreed to talk to each other on August 30 at Mr. Justice Mudgal's insistence that they settle their dispute through talks in the interest of their five-month-old daughter Samaira. At the last hearing on September 15, the two informed the court that the talks had been progressing in the right direction and sought more time to continue them. Though the dispute reached the High Court through a writ petition against the Union Government by Sanjay, alleging that Karisma got a passport issued to Samaira by presenting wrong facts and without his consent, it translated into a marital dispute when Mr. Justice Mudgal asked the two to settle the matter through talks pending hearing on the petition.
