TRAPPED: On a rain-drenched morning in New Delhi, a tree fell on a moving car on Parliament street on Saturday. The passengers escaped with minor injuries.
NEW DELHI: Waterlogged roads, traffic jams and uprooted trees seemed to be the order of the day in the Capital on Saturday with many parts of the city recording heavy rain since last night affecting normal life. According to the weatherman, the Capital recorded 31 mm rainfall between 8-30 a.m. and 2-30 p.m. On the cause of the heavy downpour, officials at the Meteorological Department explained: "The rains were caused due to the low-pressure area formed over south-eastern Rajasthan adjoining eastern Uttar Pradesh and according to our forecast the Capital is in for more showers through the weekend.'' Owing to the heavy rain and the overcast sky the mercury took a plunge even as the city continued to grapple with high humidity levels. The heavy rain throughout the day also led to traffic jams and water-logging in many parts of the city as traffic lights went on the blink in some areas leaving the management to police personnel positioned at various points. With many parts of Delhi continuing to experience rain since last night, reports of uprooting of trees have also come in from several areas. Four persons were injured near All India Radio headquarters on Parliament Street when a tree fell on the car in which they were travelling. The Met department has forecast rainfall in most parts of Northern India and the region may witness another wet day on Sunday, officials said.
