PATNA: Bihar police is launching its third phase of agitation from September 30 and will go on mass leave from October 18, when voting for the first phase of election is scheduled, following failure of talks with the government.
Talks fail
The long-stretched negotiations between the government and representatives of the Bihar Policemen's Association failed here on Friday as both the parties could not reach an agreement on its 12-point demand. The negotiations were carried out by State Chief Secretary G S Kang, Home Secretary H C Sirohi and DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha. The association has already completed two phases of agitation.
Third phase of stir
During the third phase, around 65,000 police personnel would stage dharnas in the district headquarters and in front of the DGP's office from September 30 to October 1. Association Organisational Secretary Liyakat Ali said here the police personnel would also proceed on mass leave from October 18. He said the association was forced to resume agitation following the ``rigid'' stand of the State Government on its demands. Its 12-point demand included government help and job to the kin of slain policemen. He added that more than 400 police personnel had been killed in extremist encounters in the State so far. -- UNI
