PONDICHERRY: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) intending to set up bio-control laboratories would be sanctioned grant-in-aid by Department of Agriculture and Cooperation of the Union Agriculture Ministry to ensure plant protection and achieve goals of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The Additional Director of Agriculture of Pondicherry Administration, R. Sathiyaseelan, said in a release here on Saturday that the IPM covered cultural, mechanical and biological methods and also need-based application of chemical pesticides for plant protection. Sufficient number of bio-control laboratories was also required to achieve the IPM goals. The Union inistry has drawn up a plan to sanction grant-in-aid through its department of Agriculture and Cooperation to NGOs setting up the labs.
