Man shot at by Chhattisgarh cop

NEW DELHI: A head constable of the Chhattisgarh Armed Police shot at a cook of the Chhattisgarh Bhavan here over the weekend following a minor quarrel.

Head Constable Ranjit Verma allegedly shot at the cook, Vidya Panigrahi, in the thigh from his service revolver. The cook was immediately rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the city police said.

New NTPC unit commissioned

NEW DELHI: The State-run NTPC, the country's largest power generation company, on Saturday announced that it had successfully completed the fourth 500-MW Unit of the Rihand project and sychronised it to the Northern Grid.

With the commissioning of this unit, the coal-fired project would have a total capacity of 2,000 MW, it added.

NTPC now has an installed capacity of 24,249 MW through its 13 coal-based and seven gas-based units.

Felicitated

NEW DELHI: The Director-General, Discipline Ceremonial & Welfare, at Army Headquarters, Lieutenant-General M. G. Girish, felicitated a group of senior citizens from Kargil here on Saturday.

The senior citizens are on an excursion to Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi, Lucknow, Agra, Jaipur, Ajmer and Amritsar from September 12 to 20.

The mission is aimed at exposing the senior citizens, hailing from remote areas of Padam, Suru Valley, Drass, Kargil and Batalik, to "the grandeur, cultural heritage and secular character of the country", said a Defence Ministry spokesperson.

Labourer held

for robbery

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man was arrested by the Bhajanpura police in North-East Delhi on Saturday for alleged involvement in a robbery case reported on September 19.

The police received a complaint from Swati Aggarwal alleging that she was robbed of cash and jewellery by three persons on September 19 night.

Investigations led the police to zero in on Idrish, who had worked at Ms. Aggarwal's residence as a labourer. He was picked up for questioning on Saturday morning. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to his involvement in the robbery.

Child dies

NEW DELHI: In a bizarre case, a baby girl died in a north-west Delhi area after she was accidentally hit in the head by a man while he was playing with her, police sources said.

Raju, a servant in a house in Sultanpuri, was playing with the one-and-half year old girl when her head hit the wall and started bleeding.

The girl was rushed to a hospital but died there.
