HYDERABAD: It is hardly surprising that the traffic signal at the ECIL-Kushaiguda bus stand does not work. Many traffic signals in many parts of Hyderabad do not work at the best of times. But the signal post hangs precariously. Ever since a lorry hurtled against the signal post, it has not been working, says a worker at Sulabh International complex here. With no cops to regulate the traffic at night, and with most of the streetlights not functioning here, it is like a free fall here. The bus stand here is the last stop for many buses from Secunderabad, Afzalgunj, Mehdipatnam, Kukatpally etc. With buses starting from here, and vehicles approaching in all directions, accidents are waiting to happen, says a commuter here. Wires hang loose on the entire stretch from this bus stand to S.P.Nagar bus stand. "We are scared that these wires may drop on a rainy day like this", says a chat bandar owner. An electricity pole, which hangs low, threatens to fall down on the children who play here. This pole has not been working for more than two years, yet the authorities have not removed it, says an auto driver who lives here.
