BANGALORE: The Special Court trying the multi-crore stamp paper racket cases on Saturday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to produce cassettes containing the telephone conversation of a former Victoria hospital doctor and a person about the money offered by Abdul Kareem Telgi, prime accused, for getting medical certificates.

Judge A.T. Munnoli passed the order in the case relating to Dr. Channakeshava and Dr. Gyanendrappa, who have been charged with accepting bribe and giving false medical certificates to Telgi to enable him get bail. Mr. Munnoli also directed the CBI to send the cassettes to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), New Delhi, for making copies and making it available to the accused by October 7.

Senior Special Public Prosecutor of CBI B.R. Nanjundaiah had filed an application under Section 311 of the Criminal Procedure Code seeking the court's permission to place on record the conversation between Dr. Gyanendrappa and Dr. Agnihotri. This conversation was recorded by STAMPIT in 2002. The CBI placed the cassettes before the Special Court after getting the opinion of CFSL.

After the Special Court allowed the application, the CBI produced three audiocassettes and the manuscript of the conversation.

On another application filed by S. Shankarappa, advocate for Dr. Channakeshava, the Special Court issued summons to the Bangalore Central Prison authorities for production of medical records of Telgi prior to May 9, 2002.
