PATNA: The State Government has decided to thoroughly screen baggage of incoming passengers at airport and railway stations to check entry of unaccounted cash in the coming Assembly elections, official sources said today. A scanner would be installed soon at the Jaiprakash Narayan airport in Patna to check the baggage of incoming passengers, the sources said. Likewise, train passengers too would be screened at important railway stations, including the Patna junction. Apart from Patna, searches would be carried out at Samastipur, Barauni, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Katihar and Jhajha railway stations, the sources said. The new system would be made operational before the first phase of the polls on October 18, the sources said. A select group of officers would be imparted special training for the purpose. Chief Secretary G S Kang had asserted that nobody would be spared be it a politician or VVIP. Anyone arousing suspicion would be thoroughly frisked. Kang is scheduled to hold a high-level meeting with senior airport officials tomorrow on installation of the scanner, expected to cost around Rs 30-32 lakh, the sources said. PTI
