MUMBAI: Over 10,000 depositions on the Mumbai floods were recorded in the public hearings organised by the Concerned Citizens Commission (CCC) in the last two weeks. The findings of the hearings are likely to be released by October 31, the organisers informed. Starting from September 3, the CCC held 12 public hearings in the worst-affected areas of the city such as Kurla, Kalina, Jeri Meri and Sakinaka. From September 20 to September 24, experts belonging to different disciplines were invited totalk about the floods and the way the problem was managed.

Ravi Duggal, co-ordinator of CEHAT an NGO working for public health Dr. M.D. Zingde, National Institute of Oceanography, Girish Raut, environmentalist, Rakesh Kumar, scientist and head of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and Satish Sawhney, former Commissioner of Police, were among the experts. They discussed issues such as the course of the Mithi river, epidemics and handling of flood-related diseases, the role of home guards and civil defence bodies, alternative roles and training for the police.
