DUBAI: An engineer, belonging to Hyderabad, allegedly killed his wife and four children, the youngest being an eight-month-old, before hanging himself. Mohammad Razi, 38, engineer for a consultancy company, allegedly slit the throats of wife Afshan, 30, and children Abdul Hamid, 12, Bushra, 11, Umaima, 6, and Sania, 8 months, in their flat in Sharjah, Gulf News said. The incident was reported on Saturday afternoon after a relative alerted the building's watchman when the family failed to answer the door. Mohammad on Thursday called and told his father Mohammed Ziauddin in Hyderabad that he would return home next day as things were not going well for him in the UAE, the paper quoted a relative. A neighbour described the family as "quiet" and "religious," regularly going to a nearby mosque. PTI
`My son is not cruel'
Hyderabad Staff Reporter writes: Meanwhile, members of Razi's family living near Malakpet fire station here said that they suspect foul play about the deaths. Mr. Ziauddin, a retired Government veterinary doctor, said that Razi was "not of cruel type who will kill his family members." He felt that something has gone wrong. A shocked Mr. Ziauddin said that there was a possibility of someone killing his son's family members and blaming his son. The veterinary doctor has five sons and Razi was the eldest. Razi went to Sharjah 18 years ago and reportedly well settled there. He helped three of his brothers settle in America and another in Dubai. His parents received information about the deaths on Saturday evening. Razi's mother fell unconscious on hearing the news. A pall of gloom descended on the house.
