The State-level competition for professional theatre organised by the KCBC Media Commission has become an annual event that attracts the fans of professional theatre as well as the leading professional theatre troupes in the State. An annual event being held at the Pastoral Orientation Centre (POC) at Palarivattom regularly, the competition offers the lovers of professional theatre an opportunity to enjoy the latest productions each year at the same venue, spread over a week. The play to open the festival, which began on Saturday, was Annu Muthal Innu Vare directed by Vakkam Shakeer for Sopanam Theatres, Thiruvananthapuram, with the script penned by Francis T. Mavelikkara. On Sunday, Ahimsayude Tharattu, directed by Karakulam Chandan for Aniyara, Changanassery, was staged. The script was written by Sunil K.Anand. On Monday, Hamsadoothu, directed by Valsan Nisari for Geetha Communications, Kollam, was staged. The script of this play was also written by Francis T. Mavelikkara. Kathayaatam, directed by Vakkam Shakkeer for Pala Communications, will be staged on Tuesday. Again, the script is written by Francis T. Mavelikkara. On the fifth day of the competition, Akshaya Jyothissu, directed by Satheesh Sangamithra for Areena, Kollam, will be staged. The script for this play is written by Jayakumar Palliman. On Thursday, which will be the sixth day of the event, Kudumbadeepam, directed by Rajeevan Mammili for Navadhara, Poonjar, will be staged. Francis T. Mavelikkara writes the script for this play also. The festival and competitions will conclude on Sunday. On that day, Dhanyamam Jeevitham, directed by Xavier Pulppat for Maithry Kalakendram, Aluva, will be performed. Pulpatt has written the play himself. The themes of these plays vary in nature, but remain typical of the professional theatre with highly-charged emotional situations and personal tragedies that will wrench tears out of the common audience. Personal traumas and the conflict of good and evil are the all-important ingredients. The results of the competitions will be announced later, followed by prize distribution.
