CUDDALORE: District Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi has called for the creation of awareness among people about measures to ward off heart ailments. By doing physical exercises regularly or taking a walk for half-an-hour daily, or by playing a sport for an hour, heart problems can be kept at bay, Mr. Singh said. He was speaking at a function held at Anna Stadium in connection with the World Heart Day celebrations organised recently by the Heart Care Clinic of Krishna Hospital and the Health Care and Walkers Association. Mr. Bedi said 120 countries celebrated World Heart Day to draw attention on prevention of cardiac diseases. Obesity and incautious lifestyle and food habits were said to be the major causes for heart problems. Therefore, it was imperative to keep the body fit and weight under control. Mr. Bedi said the uncovered portion of the walkers' path in the stadium would be built at a cost of Rs. 3 lakhs, and a parallel grassy path would soon be laid. As the solar lanterns installed along the walkers' path were not working, the Municipality was asked to put electric lights in their place till they were repaired. Superintendent of Police S. Panneerselvam, Ela. Pugazhendi, MLA, Municipal Chairman A.G. Rajendran, Krishna Hospital director K. Krishnamurthy, cardiologist T. Parthasaraty, and Walkers' Association president and secretary V. Thiagarajan and K. Paramasivam participated.
