NEW DELHI: The Rajasthan and Bihar Cricket Associations and the Nethaji Cricket Club, Chennai, on Monday challenged in the Supreme Court a Calcutta High Court order quashing the appointment of the former Chief Justices, K.N. Singh and M.M. Poonchi, as Special Observers for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) polls. A three-judge Bench, comprising Justices Y.K. Sabharwal, C.K. Thakker and S.H. Kapadia, asked counsel for the petitioners to "mention" tomorrow for early hearing of the matter. The SLPs challenging the September 23 Division Bench decision of the High Court sought restoration of the order passed by a single judge of the High Court directing the conduct of BCCI elections under the supervision of Justice Singh, Justice Poonchi and the former Supreme Court judge, S.C. Sen. They also sought a direction for setting aside the decision of BCCI president Ranbir Singh Mahendra to adjourn the AGM till November 30 and to direct the Board to convene the adjourned AGM at the earliest to elect the new office-bearers.
