TDP prevails in Gudur, Congress in Kavali

Staff Reporter

NELLORE: The Congress has received a setback in Gudur municipality, winning 13 wards to Telugu Desam Party's 17, in a council of 33 wards.

The Bharatiya Janata Party got two wards and an independent has won in one ward. Incidentally, Gudur is the hometown of the District Congress Chief, Y. Gopala Reddy, and is supposed to be the bastion of the Visakhapatnam MP, N. Janardhana Reddy, who regularly camps at Gudur. Even the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Panabaka Lakshmi, attempted to gain a hold at Gudur, by securing some seats for her candidates. For the TDP, which was in opposition in the earlier council, the latest results proved to be highly consoling.

However, in Kavali municipality, which has 37 wards, Congress has emerged victorious in 23 wards, followed by TDP in eight.

The BJP has won in four wards and the much-publicised Kavali Praja Samiti (KPS), has to be content with just two wards.
