TIRUNELVELI: Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai lifted the Vaiyapurai memorial trophy defeating Southern Railway, Chennai 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 in the last match of the four-team league of the first anniversary invitation tournament of the Vaiyapuri Memorial Volleyball Club at Kalingapatti near here on Sunday. IOB, which finished with an all-win record in the league, bagged a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and Southern Railway, which finished runner-up was richer by Rs.10,000. Indian Bank, Chennai, which beat Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai 19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 for its only win to finish third, got Rs. 9,000. ICF, finished last and got Rs. 6,000. PSG, Volleyball Club, Coimbatore won the women's match beating Stadium Friends Volleyball Club, Madurai 25-13, 25-12. The teams were awarded Rs. 5,000 each. Velmurugan, Chairman, Velammal Education Trust, Chennai presided. Vaiko, President Vaiyapuri Memorial Volleyball Club and General Secretary, MDMK, gave away the prizes. Special Awards: Attacker: James (S. Rly); Central Blocker: Rajesh (IOB); Setter: Thulsi Reddy (IOB); All-rounder: Sivabalan ((IOB); Libero: Nithiyanandan (Indian Bank); Veteran Player: Muthuraj (Indian Bank).
