WE'VE MADE IT: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy congratulating PCC president K. Keshava Rao at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday after the win.
HYDERABAD: APCC president K. Keshava Rao thanked the voters for delivering a verdict in favour of value-based politics while teaching a fitting lesson to those banking on negative campaign. Addressing a press conference he said the disinformation campaign unleashed by TDP president N.Chandrababu Naidu and a section of the prejudiced media in the last 16 months has been spurned by the enlightened electorate. He attributed the success of the party to the select and elect policy adopted by the party and the freedom given to the local leadership in campaign. The Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, who was present at the press conference thanked the Left parties, Congress MLAs, MPs, and local leaders and workers for the victory.
It's all poor planning: TRS
The TRS which secured majority in just two municipalities on its own, conceded defeat in the elections saying it could not win wards and divisions in numbers expected of it. Nevertheless, it is in a position to win the chairmanship of five municipalities and play a decisive role in the victory of chairpersons of other parties, which it may support in seven to eight municipalities, senior party leader and Union Minister A. Narendra and N. Narasimha Reddy, MLA, said. Admitting that the TRS' expectations went awry, Mr. Narendra attributed it to poor planning. It would try to overcome the bottlenecks. He ruled out that the results would have any bearing on the strong sentiments of people on separate Telangana. He said the elections were not a representative sample to judge the public mandate for a party.
Upendra hails win
Former Union Minister P. Upendra hailed the Congress victory and said it reaffirmed people's confidence in Dr. Reddy's leadership. Finance Minister K. Rosaiah at Srisailam described the victory as vetting of Government policies by the public. Mr. Rosaiah said public voted overwhelmingly to the ruling party notwithstanding the anti-incumbency factor.
