THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State capital is all set to host The Hindu Young World Quiz competition that has by now become an eagerly awaited annual event for the entire academic community associated with school education, particularly for the keen quizzers among school students. This year's competition will be held at the AKG Hall here on Wednesday afternoon. As many as 210 teams from 80 schools in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts of Kerala and Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu will be participating in the competition. The teams are to report at the centre at 1 p.m. As per the rules of The Hindu Young World quiz competition, students from classes nine to 12 are eligible to represent their school. Each school can send up to three teams, each team consisting of two members. The preliminaries will start at 2 p.m. and it will be a written round. Each team would be given answersheets on which they would have to jot down the answers to the questions posed by the quizmaster. The evaluation of the answersheets will be carried out immediately afterwards. From the preliminary round six teams will be selected for the regional finals that will commence at 3.30 p.m. The prize distribution function will take place soon after the close of the finals. The Eveready is the national title sponsor and IQ Topper the associate sponsor of the competition. The national sponsors are Reynolds, State Bank of Travancore, Cycle Brand Agarbathies, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Penguin Books. Coca-Cola is the official drink. The event is managed by Quizwalahs. The regional sponsors are Veega Land, Nutrifud, Vijayalazmi Cashew Company, Craze Biscuits, Quilon Radio Service and British Library. Hotel South Park is the hospitality sponsor.
