KOLLAM: Allegations and counter-allegations on snatching postal ballots out of the hands of postmen led to tension erupting at Ezhukone and Anchalumoodu in the district on Monday. The police have registered two cases in this regard. While the United Democratic Front (UDF) alleged that Left Democratic Front (LDF) activists had taken away postal ballots from the postman at Neduvathur, the LDF alleges that UDF activists had snatched postal ballots from the postman at Anchalumoodu. However, it appears that the voters concerned had received the postal ballots. The police said here on Monday that a clear picture would emerge only after the counting of votes on Tuesday. None of the voters concerned has filed any complaint on not receiving the postal ballot papers, the police said. At Anchalumoodu, the complaint was filed by LDF candidate Sanal Kumar, contesting to the Vettuvila grama panchayat. He alleged that the rival UDF candidate had snatched ballot papers from a postman attached to the Perinad post office. Unconfirmed reports say that the postman concerned has given a complaint to the postmaster in this regard. But details are not available. Tension erupted when LDF activists took out a march to the Perinad post office on Monday morning. The police intervened and brought the situation under control. There was tension in the Ezhukone area on Monday in connection with the postal ballots row at Neduvathur. While the LDF took out a march to the Ezhukone police station demanding withdrawal of cases registered against two LDF activists, UDF men marched to the Neduvathur post office demanding action against the postman. The police were present at both sites in strength and no untoward incidents were reported.
