Bypoll to 168 gram panchayat seats

BELGAUM: Byelections to 168 seats in 39 gram panchayats of eight taluks in the district will be held on October 16.

According to the Deputy Commissioner here on Monday, election notification will be issued on Tuesday.

Nominations will be received till October 4. The scrutiny will take place on October 5.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 7. Counting of votes will take place on October 17.

The release said that byelections are being held to fill vacancies caused due to death, resignation and other reasons.

Sixteen seats are vacant in eight gram panchayats in Belgaum taluk, 17 seats in 13 gram panchayats in Khanapur taluk, 33 seats in three gram panchayats in Hukkeri taluk, 76 seats in four gram panchayats in Bailhongal, three seats in three gram panchayats in Gokak taluk, 17 seats in two gram panchayats in Saundatti taluk, one seat in one gram panchayat in Ramdurg taluk and five seats in five gram panchayats in Chikkodi taluk of the district.
