Officials inspect counting centres

Counting of votes today; 30 counting centres in Thrissur



COUNTDOWN BEGINS: Officials reviewing arrangements at a counting centre in Thrissur.

THRISSUR: The counting of votes in the local body elections will be held on Tuesday.

The percentage of voter turnout in the district was 58.76. The voter turnout in the elections to the grama panchayats, municipalities and Corporation was 60.11, 63.76 and 45.93 per cent respectively.

The counting of votes will begin at 8 a.m., according to an official press release.

K.S. Premachandra Kurup, Collector and District Election Officer, and T. Chandran, Superintendent of Police, inspected a few counting centres on Monday.

Thirty counting centres have been set up in the district. The Maharaja's Technical Institute will be the counting centre for elections to Thrissur Corporation.

The counting centres for elections to municipalities are the Chalakudy municipal office, Irinjalakuda municipal office, Kodungallur Municipal Town Hall, Chavakkad M.R. Raman Smaraka High School, Vadakkumbhagom Guruvayur Municipal Council Hall and the Kunnamkulam Municipal Town Hall.

The following are the counting centres for elections to block panchayats:

Chavakkad: M.R. Raman Memorial High School (South), Government Higher Secondary School, Chavakkad; Vadakkanchery: V. H. S. School, St. Pius U. P. School, Pullanikkad; Pazhayannur: Government Higher Secondary School; Ollukkara: Government Institute of Advanced Studies, Thrissur; Puzhakkal: Sree Sarada High School, Puranattukara Block I and II; Mullassery: St. Joseph's High School, Pavaratty; Thalikkulam: VHS Thalikkulam; Anthikkad: Higher Secondary School, Anthikkad; Cherpu: Government VHSS, Cherpu; Kodakara: Tyagaraja Polytechnic, Azhagappa Nagar Block I and II.

Irinjalakuda: St. Joseph's Convent Girl's High School, Karuvannur; Vellangallur: Government High School, Karupadanna; Mathilakam: St. Joseph's High School, Mathilakam.

Kodungallur: Government Girl's Higher Secondary School, Kodungallur; Mala: St. Antony's Higher Secondary School, Mala; Chalakudy: Government Girl's High School, Chalakudy; Chovannur: Sri Krishna College, Guruvayur Block I and II.
