Of high moral standards

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: D.M. Nanjundappa set high moral standards in public life. He never shirked responsibility and owned up for lapses that occurred in the departments or institutions he was heading.

When he was Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad, Dr. Nanjundappa was also ex officio Chairman of the Pre-University Education Board. During the annual examinations in April 1982, the question papers of the second year pre-university examinations were leaked before the examinations. Dr. Nanjundappa resigned as PU Board Chairman owning moral responsibility for the lapse.

Dr. Nanjundappa had his own views on academic sanctity. After the final year B.Com. examination question papers of Bangalore University were leaked in April 1997 and re-examinations held, Dr. Nanjundappa said the Vice-Chancellor should not be blamed for the lapse.
