BELLARY: The newly formed Pragati Grameena Bank has started functioning from Bellary, where its head office is located. Vincent D'Souza, who was the Chairman of Tungabhadra Grameena Bank, will head the new bank, which will have jurisdiction over seven districts. The Union Government, on September 12, decided to amalgamate all grameena banks sponsored by a nationalised bank and form a new bank. In Karnataka, two new banks were floated by amalgamating four grameena banks sponsored by Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank. Accordingly, four banks sponsored by Canara Bank Tungabhadra Grameena Bank, Chitradurga Grameena Bank, Kolar Grameena Bank and Sahyadri Grameen Bank have been brought under the new bank. The bank will continue to operate in all the seven districts that were hitherto served by the four grameena banks. All the branches of the former banks will now be under Pragati Grameena Bank. Mr. D'Souza, in a press release, said all services, including deposits and loans, will be offered as usual and there will be no change in rules and regulations, working hours, holidays and the like. Customers should get the seal of the new bank on the passbook provided by the respective bank branches in their areas.
