HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer C. Ratna Reddy, IG (CID), will enquire into the attacks on journalists at Nellore, Amalapuram and Palamner and submit a report within a month. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy stated this in response to a representation by journalists here on Monday. In a press release by the Chief Minister's Office, Dr. Reddy directed Home Minister K. Jana Reddy to appoint within 24 hours, a high-power committee to ensure that such incidents don't recur. He described the attacks "unfortunate" and said they caused anguish to him. The Government would ensure that such incidents did not recur. Dr. Reddy said that the Government would not tolerate any hardship to journalists and attacks on them as well as press freedom. K. Srinivas Reddy, secretary-general, Indian Journalists' Union, K. Amarnath, president, Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, representatives of Andhra Pradesh Electronic Media Journalists' Association, Andhra Pradesh Electronic Media Cameramen's Association and Hyderabad Union of Journalists met the Chief Minister.

Andhra Pradesh Television Journalists' Association and Andhra Pradesh Electronic Media Cameramen Association have sought an enquiry into the attack on journalists in Nellore on September 24 by the Anam brothers and their followers. In a representation to Justice Subhashan Reddy, Chairman, State Human Rights Commission here on Monday, leaders of the association said 13 representatives of the media were injured in the attack.
