Remarks condemned
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday denounced the allegation against Pramode Dasgupta, one of the founding leaders of the party, in the book The Mitrokhin Archive and the Secret History of the KGB.
"The ridiculous charge that Pramode Dasgupta was an agent of the Indian Intelligence Bureau is nothing but an attempt to defame a leader who was the builder of the CPI(M) in West Bengal. The veracity of the anti-communist material can be judged by the absurdity of this charge,'' it said in a press statement.
It said this malicious attempt had been met with outrage in democratic and progressive circles and that the Polit Bureau "fully endorsed'' the stand taken by the West Bengal State Committee to file defamation suits against the newspaper which published a news.
