Water level

MADURAI: The water level in the Periyar dam on Monday stood at 129.1 feet with an inflow of 82 cusecs and a discharge of 1582 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 42.13 feet with an inflow of 1150 cusecs and a discharge of 3571 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 5818 mcft.

Kuppanampatti recorded 20 mm of rainfall, followed by Sittampatti 13.4, Sattaiyar dam 3.2 and Melur 2 mm.

Court boycott

Members of the Usilampatti and Tirumangalam Bar Associations on Monday boycotted the courts demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits behind the murder of an advocate, Kumaraguru, on September 24.

Demonstration

Members of the Traffic Branch of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU), Madurai Division, staged a demonstration at the Railway Junction here on Monday in protest against the recommendations of the running allowance committee.

Terming it "anti-labour," the union said that if the recommendations were implemented, they would not only affect the salary of the running staff but also their retirement benefits. — Staff Reporter
