BJP, JD(U) reach seat-sharing pact
NEW DELHI:
The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (U) reached a seat-sharing agreement for the coming Bihar Assembly elections under which the former will contest 102 seats, three short of the number it fought last time. Working out the arrangement after a marathon meeting, the two NDA allies decided that the JD(U) will contest the rest of the 141 seats in the 243-member House.
BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley told PTI that 30-odd MLAs who had contested on tickets of other parties and had since joined various constituents of NDA had been accommodated. The BJP will announce the names of 11 more candidates tomorrow.
The BJP had already declared names of 80 candidates, which include 39 MLAs of the dissolved House, he said. PTI
