COIMBATORE: Siruthuli, a public initiative for reviving water resources in Coimbatore, has claimed a groundswell of support to its River Noyyal Yatra - a rally to sensitise people on its Noyyal Restoration Project. The yatra will be taken out on October 2 (Gandhi Jayanthi) over a stretch of 30 km. Siruthuli said film and television personalities would participate in the walk that would be broken into 10 phases. Trade and industrial houses and their associations, service organisations and various sections of society have come forward to join the yatra. So far, 27,000 people had expressed willingness to participate and many more were expected to join over the next five days. Of those who had given their names, 13,800 were school and college students. Various organisations had offered to provide 235 buses to transport the students to various points of the yatra. The yatra would end at V.O.C. Park Grounds where a food festival, Koottaan choru, would be held. Cuisines of the Kongu region would be served. Those interested in taking part in the yatra or contributing funds could contact Siruthuli at its office at 302, Raheja Centre, Avanashi Road. Phone: 5333301/5333302.
