COIMBATORE: Police foiled a self-immolation bid by a farmer at the Collectorate here on Monday. Karuppusamy of Bodipatti in Udumalpet walked into the crowded Collectorate unnoticed with a can of kerosene.
Calls for action
No one took notice of him, as they were busy preparing petitions to be submitted to the Collector at the grievances meeting being held there. Calling for action against some persons who allegedly attempted to rape his daughter, Karuppusamy doused himself with kerosene. Police personnel nearby swooped on him and restrained him from setting himself ablaze. Race Course police have registered a case against him.
